Into all the world

From time to time we send people out on short or medium-term mission. This can range from working in a relief project in Africa, to visiting a partner organisation in Cambodia, linking with a church in Romania, or doing training and evangelism with a group like OM or YWAM. Some trips may be weeks, but other placements can be for two or three years.

This page is for snippets of news, photos, or prayer requests from the travelling believers who have gone into all the world- in Christ's name.

Well, I have made it to Hong Kong and have been slowly getting back into the Asian way of life!

When I arrived in Hong Kong, my flight had been put back by one hour due to ice on the wings and missing our departure slot on the runway at Heathrow. Anyway, 13 hours later I arrived and was greeted at the airport by the base leader.

This week has mainly been about familiarizing myself with the core values of the base and getting to know the other staff. Each morning of the week we have worship as a whole base and then the staff meet for intercession. We have prayed for different teams and missions in Asia.

We believe in starting our day with meeting worshipping and praising God like this because the base is surrounded by more than 13 temples, and the spiritual atmosphere can be quite heavy. It is not unusual to wake up to the sound of firecrackers being let off and the smell of burning incense. Such is the culture and religions in Asia that many people believe doing these things will protect them from evil spirits.

This week has already had a few challenges for me. I got the important role of typing up all the testimonies here in the Hong Kong. If you didn’t know already, I think I can only type with about 3˝ fingers so progress is slow!

Also during this week I have done quite a lot of traveling around Hong Kong with another staff member who will leave next week. Here at Youth With A Mission we support an ethnic Chinese minority group called the Tujia. They make various different textile products, and the money raised from selling their products goes to help support them as well as food and schooling resources for approximately100 children in China. We sell their products at various shops and have to go and check their stock levels and take more items to them every few months.

So at the moment I am being trained in different areas in the office but also helping the Tujia ministry which I will be involved in.

Please pray that I may continue to walk in the light of Christ and to also keep growing in love for the Cantonese. Thank you all for your much appreciated support for our work here in the ‘Fragrant Harbour.’ I believe the support will help the teams and me spread the fragrance of Christ in the Far East.

Thank you again.
